Douglas Wayne Johnson of Bedford Texas, passed away after a short illness on Sunday, November 7, 2021. Doug is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Marian Johnson. Following Doug’s passing, his oldest son, Morgan Davis Russell, passed away November 22, 2021. Doug is survived by his wife, Katherine Harris Johnson, his son Grant West Johnson, his sister, Kari J Johnson,
and her wife, Pamela Edwards. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Janet Ramirez, and his grand
children Jesus Donald Russell-Ramirez and Diego Robert Russell-Ramirez.
Doug was born on February 15, 1956, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Doug went to L. D. Bell high School, and after High School, he earned his private pilot’s license and began flying small planes recreationally. That began his long career as a pilot. From High School Doug enlisted in the Army, and rose to the rank of a Chief Warrant Officer 2 of the 155th Aviation Company Attack Helicopter, flying Cobra Helicopters at Fort Ord in Monterey, California.
After his honorable discharge from the Army, Doug returned to Texas, and attended college. He graduated from the University of Central Texas with a Bachelor of Science. After graduating from college, Doug took a job with Petroleum Helicopters, flying Roughnecks to and from offshore oil rigs in the Gulf. He also worked for a Dallas company, Pumpkin Air, owned by Rose Hunt, and often flew the stars of the TV show, Dallas, to various locations around the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Finally, Doug became an American Airlines employee, starting as a flight instructor. He soon became a part of the flight crew, beginning as a third officer, and rising to the rank of Captain. Doug worked for AA for 23 years,
and was a Captain for 14 years. He took an early retirement from AA, and went back to work as a flight
instructor, for Southwest Airlines and then for Flight Safety, which he did until his death.
Doug was born to be an aviator. He was a dedicated pilot and flight instructor. He was also a dedicated
husband, father and grandfather. Doug will be missed by so many.

A celebration of life for Douglas will be held Friday, December 10, 2021 at 3:00 PM at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, 5725 Colleyville Boulevard, Colleyville, Texas.
