Dorothy Ruth Robbins Gross, aged 92 years, went to meet her Lord and Savior on January 14, 2018 in Lakeway, Texas after a brief illness. She was born in Groesbeck, Texas on October 19, 1925 to E.J. and Ora Mae Robbins. She resided with her parents in east Fort Worth, and graduated from Fort Worth's Polytechnic High School in 1943. She was an active member of Sagamore Hill Baptist Church in Meadowbrook, sang in the church choir and became and remained a devoted Christian.
Her first employment was at the S. H. Kress five and dime store on Main Street in downtown Fort Worth where she worked behind the candy counter. Dorothy worked in the administrative offices of the fledgling American Airlines in downtown Fort Worth in the mid 1940's and later started a banking career working in the bookkeeping department at Fort Worth National Bank.
In 1946, she met a returned World War II army soldier, east Fort Worth resident Maurice Herschel Gross. The pair married in a beautiful ceremony conducted by Reverend W. Swank at Fort Worth Riverside Baptist Church on Saturday, November 16, 1946. The couple continued to reside on the east side of Fort Worth.
A son, Max, was born in 1952, and a daughter, Glenda was born in 1959. Just after the birth of Glenda, Herschel and Dorothy moved to a new home in Hurst, Texas where they would reside for over 25 years. Dorothy continued to work in the banking industry for City National Bank, Bank of North Texas, Western Savings and Mercantile Bank all located in the Fort Worth and the mid-cities areas. She and her husband were members of the First Baptist Church of Hurst, and Pipeline Road Church of Christ, also in Hurst.
They were very active members of the Mid-Cities Square Dance Club. Herschel passed away in 1984 and Dorothy continued to reside in Hurst until 2005. She retired to Dripping Springs, Texas where she resided near her daughter until her death.
Her son, Max H. Gross and her daughter Glenda Ruth Champagne both of Dripping Springs, as well as two grandchildren, Melinda Church of Lakeville, Minnesota and Caden Champagne of Dripping Springs, Texas, survive her. A sister, Mary C. Foil of Linn Valley, Kansas and three great grandsons, also survive her.
A visitation will be held at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, 5725 Colleyville Blvd, Colleyville, Texas on Friday evening, January 19th from 4 pm until 6pm. A memorial service will be conducted at Bluebonnet Hills by Reverend Bill Foil of Linn Valley, Kansas on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, the family recommends a memorial gift to the American Heart Association in her name.
