She was born to parents James Marvin and Preble Dean, on October 10, 1920 in Campbell, Hunt County, Texas. She graduated from Cumby High School and went on to attend East Texas State University.
Doris met her devoted husband of 78 years, Ples Stewart in 1935.They were married on July 11, 1942 in McKinney, Texas. Together they built a life raising three daughters; Dorcas Stewart Loftin of Granbury, Texas; Cynthia Stewart Gomez of Austin, Texas; Sheila Stewart Jenkins of Aledo, Texas.
Doris spent her life devoted to her husband and family. A military wife for the first 15 years, Doris raised homemaking to an art form and always made our home a warm nurturing place with all the many moves that were required of our family. Doris’ sweet spirit, good food, and warm hospitality was a constant in our home. She was an active member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and enjoyed participating in the “Adopted Families Program”.
Doris is predeceased by her late husband, Ples Stewart , Jr of Watauga, Texas and survived by her daughters: Dorcas Loftin and husband, Jerry ; Cynthia Gomez and husband, Eloy; Sheila Jenkins and husband, Kevin; Grandchildren: Steffanie Weimer, Edmond Oklahoma; Sarah Curtis, Salado, Texas; Jason Gomez, Austin, Texas; Eloy Gomez, Dallas, Texas; Matt Jenkins, Nashville, Tennessee, and Josh Jenkins, Nashville, Tennessee; Great-Grandchildren: Hannah Decker, Sydney, Australia; Owen and Kendal Curtis, Salado, Texas; Iziah Gomez, Dallas, Texas; Ruby, Karis, Laurel, and Harper Jenkins, Nashville, Tennessee; Jones and Everly Jenkins, Nashville, Tennessee, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, 5725 Colleyville Blvd., Colleyville, Texas 76034, with visitation on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. and Graveside service on-site to follow at 11:00 a.m.
