Doris “Terry” Parker, née Sayer, was born and raised in England, just outside London. At a young age, she served in the female auxiliary of the Royal Air Force, known as the Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF). She was proud of her role tracking enemy aircraft on radar as they made their way across the English Channel. This was WWII, and it was during this time that she met and married her beloved husband, the late Lovell Parker, who was serving in the US Army Air Corps. Doris and their daughter, Susan first came to the US in 1946 aboard the RMS Queen Mary along with many other families of US servicemen.
For the next four decades, Doris lovingly raised 5 children: Susan, Stella, Sharon, Alan, and Linda. She enjoyed being involved in their schooling and extracurricular activities. As her children grew and began lives of their own, she re-entered the workforce as a retail associate. She delighted in her sales position in the infants and children’s clothing department at Sanger Harris, especially during the Christmas season.
Doris adored children and was blessed with 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren whom she loved to spoil. To them she was affectionately known as Pa, and they will greatly miss her presence in their lives.
As the wife of a Master Sergeant with a 27 year career in the US Air Force, she moved frequently and lived all across the US and abroad. This led to a passion for travel and Doris was fortunate enough to indulge that passion by setting sail on many cruises and traveling to a variety of interesting locations.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband in 2003, her son-in-law, her parents, 3 brothers and her sister. She is survived by her children, her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and one brother.
There will be a small service at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home & Memorial Park 5725 Colleyville Blvd, Colleyville, TX 76034 at 2 PM on Tuesday the 23rd of August. Visitation will begin at 1 PM. A memorial service will be held at a later date TBD when all of her grandchildren will be present.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.bluebonnethills.com for the Parker family.
