Don Dulaney Newman was born on October 19, 1933 in Waxahachie, Texas. He was the son of Dan Reynolds Newman & Nell Newman. He moved to Beaumont in 1940. He graduated from South Park High School in Beaumont, Texas in 1951.
Don enlisted in the Navy and served from 1955 – 1957, where he was a Seaman First Class. He then graduated with a degree in Marketing from Lamar Tech in 1959. Don married Nan Tolle on May 28, 1959, at First Baptist Church in Beaumont. They had 2 children. Don Keith Newman was born April 30, 1960, in Houston, where Don was working for AB Dick Corporation. His second son, Robert Kendall Newman, was born in Beaumont on Oct. 7, 1961. Don began working for Texaco in 1961, and was transferred to Odessa, where they lived from 1965-1969. Don subsequently got transferred to Schulenburg, where he served as a Marketing Representative for Texaco covering the central Texas area. He was transferred to Houston in 1987, where he finished his career of 32 years with Texaco in 1993. Don then worked as a consultant in Houston until he and Nan moved to North Richland Hills in 2007.
Don loved to exercise and especially loved racquetball. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, Aggie fan, and Schulenburg Shorthorn football fan. Don loved all the classic old movies, especially those starring John Wayne and Gary Cooper. He served as a Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Schulenburg. Don also served as President of Lions Club and Shorthorn Booster Club.
Don was called Home by the Lord on January 3, 2019. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Dan Newman, and sister Ann Keese. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nan Newman, and their two sons and wives. Keith and Sandi Newman of Southlake, and Kendall and Deb Newman of Katy and grandchildren Nathan Newman and wife Chelsea, Nicholas, Madison and Jacob Newman; Sister-in-law Susan Young and husband Leo. Don was also a proud uncle to DeLane Zipper and husband Rick, Scott Keese and wife Teri, Steve Newman, Judy Blaine, Meghan Young Allen and husband Nathan and Trey Young and wife Lauren and an uncle to many great, great nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home in Colleyville, Texas on Monday, January 7, 2019, at 12:30 p.m.
