She was born and raised in San Marcos, Texas on March 22, 1929. Her parents were Phillip and Josephine Mendez. Dolores and her two sisters, Mickey and Delfina, were raised by their grandparents, Benedicta and Emelio Mendez. In September, 1944, she married Albert H. Salazar. They had three daughters, Dolores, Carol, and Nora. Albert passed away in June of 1965.
In 1971, she went to work for Fidelity Union Life Insurance. She started in the mail room and ultimately worked her way up to manager of the Cashflow Dept. In the early 1970’s she was named Employee of Year and as a reward was given all-expense paid vacation to Spain and Africa. She had a tremendous time in Spain and enjoyed the mild climate and the scarcity of insects. She worked very hard at her job and earned numerous other awards before retiring in 1991.
On June 10th 1977, she married Robert Cecil White (the daughters call him “Pop”). They met at Sokol while doing polka and ballroom dancing. They had many fond memories of ballroom dancing at the Winter Garden. Pop brought her a cup of coffee and the newspaper every morning.
She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much. She enjoyed watching and attending Ranger games. Judge Judy and Antique Road Show were her favorite TV shows. The rest of the family learned not to call her when Judge Judy was on TV. She also loved talking to her sisters and reading books.
Her sister, Delfina Mendez Cox, passed away in March, 2019 and brother-in-law, Elmer Cox, in October, 2016. Henry Marrquin, her brother-in-law, passed away in February, 1993. In February, 1979 she lost a sweet granddaughter, Natalie Carol Goode. Dolores was also preceded in death by Gavy Lumpkin, her cousin, in June,2013 and Bea Navarro, her aunt, in March, 1985. Gavy and Bea shared their childhood with Dolores as they were also raised by her grandparents, Benedicta and Emelio Mendez. Gavy’s husband, Bill Lumpkin, passed away in February, 2015. Bea’s husband, Albert Navarro passed away in June,2000.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Cecil White; daughters Dolores Craig (Ron Craig, husband), Carol Hooks (Alan Hooks, husband), Nora Williams (Marc Reeves, husband); sisters Mickey Marrquin and Becky Sierra (husband Albert Sierra); and brother Ronnie Mendez. Grandchildren are Amy Jo McClarney (Matt McClarney, husband), Joseph Albert Williams (Tannoz Williams, wife), Kasey Calynn Craig (Madeline Craig, wife); and great grandchildren Jay Robert Williams, Luci Jo McClarney, Jules Alexander Williams, Quinn Elise McClarney and June Rose Williams. She loved all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren deeply as well as her many nieces and nephews. She was loved by all and left an everlasting influence and memories in the hearts of all her relatives.
Pallbearers are: Ron Craig, Kasey Craig, Joseph Williams, Alan Hooks, Matt McClarney and Marc Reeves.
