David M. Pence, age 69, of Denton, Texas, passed away on October 23, 2024. He was born in La Junta, Colorado, on April 28, 1955. He grew up in Wichita, Kansas. David graduated from Wichita East High School in 1973.
David had many passions in life, from motorcross to swimming, but he found his true passion at the young age of 10 when he discovered drumming. His parents bought him a small drum kit, and he learned how to play the drums by listening to THE MONKEES. David’s love of music helped him form the group Patch with three close friends and classmates when he was 14 years old. They started booking gigs and playing in clubs.
After graduating high school, David moved to Dallas, Texas, where he met and married Kellie (Nadeau) Pence on August 9, 1996. He began a career in outside sales in order to pay for his true love of being a drummer.
Playing in multiple bands throughout his life, he truly found his home when he joined the FUMC of Colleyville Praise band in April 2012.
But what truly brought love and joy in David’s life was becoming a father and grandfather, his greatest joys.
When David wasn’t playing the drums, he would find the time riding his Harley, playing golf, and of course, spending time with his family.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Myron and Lola Mae Pence, his brother Louie, and best friend (dog) Frankie.
He is survived by his wife Kellie Pence, son Taylor Pence and wife Sarah, son Josh Waddell, son Cody Pence and partner Ashley Theriault, granddaughter Parker Waddell, grandson Luke Waddell, brother Jerry Crain and wife Susie St. John, brother Dwane Crain and wife Sharon, sister Bea Pauley and husband Charlie, sister-in-law Doreen Nadeau, niece Schinnell Haibon, and several other nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church of Colleyville, located at 1000 Church Street, Colleyville, Texas 76034.
