It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Darryl Gene Kussmaul on January 28th, 2022. He was 69 years old and a resident of Colleyville, Texas. Darryl was a loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather as well as a beloved Veterinarian to many in the community. He was married to Vicki Ragsdale of Tulsa, Oklahoma for 44 years. They have two children and five grandchildren.
Darryl was born on January 19th, 1953 to Clyde and Almyra Kussmaul in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was the youngest of 3 siblings. Darryl grew up in Hot Springs, Arkansas and graduated from Lakeside High School in 1971.
Darryl received a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Sciences in 1975 from Oklahoma State University and a Masters degree in Microbiology in 1977 from the University of Arkansas. Darryl finally realized his lifelong dream of becoming a Veterinarian when he was accepted to the School of Veterinary Medicine at Louisiana State University where he graduated in1982 with his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
Darryl began working at Harwood Road Animal Hospital in Euless, Texas after graduating from LSU and continued working there for the past 40 years. He cared for many pets in the mid-cities community and beyond.
Darryl was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Tarrant County Veterinary Medical Association, and prior member of the Mid-cities Pacesetters Rotary Club and the First United Methodist Church of Euless, Texas. He was also active in, and enjoyed being a part of his son's scout troop in the Boys Scouts of America.
Darryl's real passion in his life was his work in Veterinary Medicine. In his free time he enjoyed traveling abroad and cruising with his family. He was a history enthusiast and enjoyed reading history and collecting WW2 memorabilia. His greatest joy in recent years was playing and being with his 5 grandsons.
Darryl is survived by his loving wife Vicki, daughter Kristin Ehlert and husband Carder, son Andrew Kussmaul and wife Jennifer, 5 grandsons, Bradley, Ethan, Matthew, Owen, and Theodore, and his brother Clyde Kussmaul and wife Carlmeta from Quitman, Arkansas, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Darryl's Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am Friday, February 18th at the First United Methodist Church of Colleyville, 1000 Church Street, Colleyville, TX 76034. Reception to follow. Private Interment.
