Brent was born July 19, 1960 at Mercy Hospital in Davenport, Iowa, son of Michael and Judy Shirk. After graduating from St. Ambrose University in Iowa, he went on to a rewarding career in medical sales, ultimately ending up with BBraun Medical. He was united in marriage to Belinda Carrigan on June 16, 2001 at their home in Wildwood, Missouri. He was a dedicated husband and father to their daughter, Madalyn.
Throughout his life, Brent was centered on his family, faith, and a desire for helping others through his work. Brent embraced his passion for horses, which started at the age of 9, and grew stronger throughout the years. This fostered an appreciation for the old west and cowboy traditions. Many would say he was the definition of TRUE GRIT. Brent inspired others through his courageous battle and his legacy is conveyed by his favorite Bible verse: “Fear not, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed. I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.” Isiah 41:10
Those left to cherish his memory are: his loving wife, Belinda, and their daughter Madalyn, his mother, Judy Shirk, of Davenport, 3 brothers; Craig, Matt and Shawn, many nieces, nephews, extended family, and his Arabian horse Shahakar. Brent was preceded in death by his father, Michael Shirk of Davenport, Iowa.
