Bill was born on May 20,1937 in Teague, TX to Joe and Stella Jackson. After growing up and attending High School in Fort Worth, Bill served 2 years in the Marine Corps in California. He began his career at General Dynamics/Lockheed in 1956 as an Engineering Clerk. Bill stayed until his retirement as a Financial Specialist in 1993, holding positions as Clerk B & A, Tech Computer, Statistical Analyst, Engineering Planner, Engineering Planner Senior, Schedules Engineer, Financial Specialist, Supervisor, Chief - Quality Assurance, Chief/Supervisor - Finance. In 1997 Bill was called back to General Dynamics/Lockheed as a Consultant for the Division Transition Organizational Team and then the Year 2000 Compliance Team. He worked until March, 2000, in all spending 40 years at General Dynamics/Lockheed.
In 1960, during an evening out in Fort Worth, Bill danced with Dottie Day and they soon fell in love. Bill and Dottie married in 1961 and had two lovely daughters, Dawn Carol and Delinda Zan. While working full-time at General Dynamics/Lockheed and helping to raise their daughters, Bill attended night classes at TCU until graduating in 1970 with a degree in Business Administration. Bill and Dottie especially enjoyed spending time together and with family and friends. After his beloved Dottie became ill, Bill retired in 1993 to care for her until her death on December 4, 1994.
Bill was blessed with another true love when he met Martha "Marty" Powers, and the two were later married in 1996 on the beach in Mexico. Over the years, Bill and Marty explored their shared love of travel by traveling the world with friends and family, exploring foreign places including Siberia and Mongolia. Bill loved to spend time reading and playing golf with his buddies. He also loved dancing, laughing, enjoying his cigars on the patio, and spending time with family and friends.
Bill also found time to give back to his community. He served for 3 years as a member of the Hurst Parks and Recreation Board, was President of the Woodhaven Neighborhood Association, and for 7 years served on the Tarrant County Appraisal Review Board. In 1995 Bill obtained a Real Estate license and was active as a licensed assistant with RE/MAX Associates of Arlington.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Stella, his wife Dottie, brother Jim, daughter Dawn Killgore, stepson Patrick Powers, and their precious Maltese, Buster.
He is survived by his wife Marty, daughter Delinda Rice and son-in-law Scott Rice, grandsons Preston and Hudson Rice, all of Bedford TX, sister Sherri and husband Dr. Gary Knight ,nephew William Knight, niece Dr. Melissa Maloney and their families, all of Durango, CO, sister-in-law Nancy Cowin and husband Larry Cowin, nephew Taylor Cowin, stepdaughters Sarah and Brenda Powers, stepson Michael Powers, and 8 step grandchildren.
Family and friends may gather for a visitation at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, 5725 Colleyville Blvd, Colleyville, Texas 76034 on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 from 5pm-7pm.
A celebration of Life for Bill will be held at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home on Thursday, December 8, 2022 at 3pm with burial immediately following in the Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park.
