Beverley Evans Powell Jr.

November 18, 1939 – December 1, 2024

Beverley Evans Powell Jr., a devoted family man, distinguished soldier, and avid sportsman, passed away surrounded by family at the age of 85. Born on November 18, 1939, in Louisville, Kentucky, Bev lived a remarkable life filled with love, service, adventure, and a passion for athletics.

The son of an Army officer, Bev grew up traveling the world. As a child, he moved regularly as an Army brat. At the age of 10, he moved overseas and attended schools in both England and France. He returned stateside at age 13, attending Clarksville High School in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, before moving to Washington, D.C., where he graduated from Gonzaga College High School in 1957.

Bev earned an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he graduated in 1961. As a talented athlete, he was awarded All-American status in both soccer and track. Following West Point, Bev completed Ranger and Airborne School, subsequently, serving as a Field Artillery Officer in the 101st at Fort Campbell and later with the 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii.

From 1966 to 1968, Bev bravely served in the Vietnam War, demonstrating his commitment to his country with valor and professionalism. After the war, he continued his military career, teaching athletics and physical education at West Point, attending the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia, and serving in Seoul, Korea, with the 8th U.S. Army.

Always an adventurer, he left the Army early, packed up his family, and moved to the Philippines for three years before returning to the states and ending up in Texas in 1983, where he founded and successfully ran his own company for 12 years. Also upon his return to the states, he re-joined the Army by way of the U.S. Army Reserves and eventually retired as a Lieutenant Colonel with 26 total years of honorable service.

Bev’s love of sports continued long after his military and civilian careers ended. He played adult soccer until the age of 64 and spent 25 years coaching women’s soccer in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, inspiring countless young athletes. He was also an enthusiastic golfer and traveler, cherishing the camaraderie of friends and the joy of exploring new places.

Bev survived his first wife who passed away in 1997. Today, he leaves behind his beloved wife, Linda, of 27 years, as well as a younger sister and brother. Together, Bev and Linda created a loving, blended family of six children and 13 grandchildren who will forever remember his larger-than-life presence, tough-as-grit countenance, generosity, humor, and boundless love. He leaves a legacy of honor, dedication, and a life well-lived.

A visitation for Beverley will be held Monday, December 9, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, 5725 Colleyville Blvd; Colleyville, Texas 76034 . A funeral service will occur Tuesday, December 10, 2024 from 11:00 AM at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home.
