Angela was born Angela Matthews at the Balboa San Diego Naval Hospital on July 31, 1954, while her father, James (Jim) Matthews was in the United States Navy. Both her parents, Jim Matthews and Roberta Matthews were Natives of Wichita and Clay Counties, Texas. After Jim's stint in the Navy, the couple returned to Texas and settled in the City of Wichita Falls where Angela resided until adulthood. The family was extremely active in the First United Methodist Church of Wichita Falls. Angela participated in all the Methodist Youth activities and was in the church choir. She had horses and would ride in rodeo parades and other festivities. She also enjoyed skeet shooting. She graduated from S H Rider High School in Wichita Falls in 1972. Her mother tried her best to encourage other, more refined, activities in Angela. She gave her music lessons, etiquette classes and had her presented as a debutante at the Wichita Falls Junior Forum. Robbie had been a deb and was an accomplished pianist. Much to Robbie's dismay, Angela preferred horses, guns and cowboys over music lessons and deb activities.
After high school Angela was afforded the opportunity to be a foreign exchange student. She thus acquired her "German Family" with whom she maintained contact for many years following her time residing in Germany. She learned the German language and learned the Germanic way of horsemanship. She also traveled extensively to destinations such as Rome, Athens and Israel. She loved traveling for the rest of her life and made many trips to Europe and other destinations with family, friends or own her own. She was brave and absolutely fearless. Her nickname was SPIKE.
Upon returning from her stint as aa exchange student, Angela enrolled in Tarleton University in Stephenville, Texas. She decided to get a degree in criminal justice and make a career in law enforcement. She later transferred to Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls and received her degree in 1976.
After graduation, she worked as a deputy constable in Wichita County and was on the Midwestern University Campus Police Force for a period. She finally found her niche when she became an employee of the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles. She was a senior district parole officer supervising dozens of parolees at a time. She was considered friendly and fair but firm by her "clients". She would go out of her way and use her own time and resources to help these young people. She is remembered with affection by many of them. She was a member of the Texas Peace Officers Association. Angela also raised cattle on her ranch at Spanish Fort, Texas. She loved raising and showing her beautiful Longhorn cattle at shows across the State of Texas. She was a member of several cattle raisers' associations.
Angela will be remembered as a very sociable, friendly outgoing person who was always ready for a party, picnic or other get together and was often the "life of the party". She had a huge capacity for love and being available to help anybody.
Angela was married to John Park Davis on July 17,1992 in Waurika, Oklahoma. They had one child, Cheyenne Park Davis. Both John and Cheyenne survive her.
