Mrs. Alice Marie James

Alice was born November 10, 1935, in Hutchinson, Kansas, to Etta and Coy Baker. She grew up in Wichita, Kansas where she attended East High School. Alice met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) James in 1950 and they continued a long-distance relationship while he was stationed overseas in Germany during the Korean War. When Bob returned home in the summer of 1954, they married on August 14th.

She had a strong Christian faith and was a member of the Haltom City Nazarene Church for many years. She was very involved with the Mission Society, Children’s Ministry and worked as an administrative assistant for the Pastor.

During her retirement years, Alice and Bob attended and became members of the North Richland Hills Baptist Church, where they enjoyed singing in the choir and taking trips with their Senior Adult Group.

Alice and Bob enjoyed traveling in their fifth-wheel trailer to 48 out of the 50 states. They also enjoyed additional trips to Alaska and several countries in Europe. Alice and Bob were married for 59 years until his passing in 2013. Her remaining retirement years were spent attending Tuesday morning Bible Study, worship services and spending time with her children and other family members.

Alice is survived by her children; Lynne Burke and husband, Jerry, Susan Shelton and husband, Jerry, Rob James, III and wife, Kay, Chris James and wife, Cheryl, and Stephanie Branam; 22 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great- grandchildren; sister, Coetta Brown and husband, Richard; many sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews, cousins; and special friends. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

Memorial Service: 10:00 a.m. Monday at North Richland Hills Baptist Church, 6955 Boulevard 26, North Richland Hills with visitation at 9:00 am. Graveside burial will be immediately following the service at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, 5725 Colleyville Boulevard, Colleyville.
