Ruby was born June 11, 1924, in Sinton, Texas. Ruby had a full 92 years of loving and being loved by a large family and many friends. Ruby loved to roller skate when she was young. At the time of her youth, there were only a few roller skating rinks. The ones in existence were traveling outdoor rinks. The rinks would set up in one town for a certain time period, break down, and move to another town. Ruby said her father was devoted to her and her love for skating and would travel all around South Texas, following the moving skating rinks so she could skate. Ruby enjoyed skating with her grandchildren when she had the opportunity.
Ruby met Milton Woodrow Arnold when he was stationed with the Navy in Corpus Christi during WWII. She said the first time she saw him at the Moravian Dance Hall in Corpus Christi, “he had a beer in each hand and a girl on each knee”. They had a short romance, which consisted mostly of letters they exchanged. To save the cost of a stamp, Milton would arrange for a Navy transport driver passing through Sinton, to drop off his letters at her home. They married in the home of her parents in Sinton, TX, on October 21, 1943. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in College Station, TX, on October 21, 1993, only a few months before Milton passed away.
Ruby and Milton made their home in Sinton, TX until 1968, when they relocated to Bryan, TX. They raised their family of five children, three boys and two girls, in Sinton and Bryan. Ruby was an active Assistant Troup Leader and volunteer in many Boy Scout and Girl Scout events her children were involved in. Ruby worked in the banking industry most of her life. She worked at Commercial State Bank in Sinton and later at University National Bank in College Station. During those years, she rose through the ranks from Bank Teller to an Assistant Vice President.
Ruby was lovingly referred to as “Cyber Nana” by her grandchildren as she was determined to learn and became proficient on a computer. She made all her family's Birthday Cards and Holiday Cards on the computer and she kept up with family and friends on FaceBook.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Woodrow Arnold, her parents, Ray and Ira Dell McCammon and her two sisters, Hazel McCammon Spradley and Edith McCammon Schmalsteig.
