Robert Lowell “Bob” Walker was 86 and passed away peacefully in his sleep into the arms of Jesus on October 25, 2022 in Bryan, Texas. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather, as well as a faithful man who loved the Lord, his family, his church and his community.
Bob was born in Victoria, Texas January 20, 1936. His parents were Richard and Louise Walker. He graduated from high school in Spur, Texas and received a BS from Texas A&M University as a proud member of the Class of 1958. To help pay his way through college, he worked summers at the Dixie Dog Drive-in that his parents bought in Spur. He also earned an MS from Pepperdine and a PhD from Texas A&M. He was in the Corps of Cadets, a member of Squadron 4 (Fightin’ Phantom Four, Pride of the Corp!). He worked in fundraising at Pepperdine for 10 years and at A&M for 46 years. Bob served on boards of Brazos Valley Community Foundation, Camp Deerfoot, Easterwood Trust, Ed Rachal Foundation, Eastern European Mission, Institute of Nautical Archeology, Pepperdine University, and Texas A&M University Press. He was a long-time member of the A&M Church of Christ, where he previously served as an elder.
Bob enjoyed most sports and rooting for his team, The Fightin’ Texas Aggies. He was also an avid 42 player, but his favorite hobby and joy was fishing.
Bob is preceded in death by his brother, Richard Lee Walker, a son, Richard Nolen Walker, and his wife of 52 years, JoAnn Nolen Walker. Survivors include 3 children, a sister, 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Rebecca & Charlie Elkins of Rockwall, TX, their daughter Abigail & Scott Sawyer of Houston and daughter Olivia; son Brazos & Kaitlyn Elkins, also of Rockwall. Sid & Amy Walker of College Station, their son Will & Candace Walker of College Station and children Sage, Saylor and Wells; and Wes Walker of Bryan. Bill & Shawna Walker of Colorado Springs, their son McKinnon & Lauren Walker of Lubbock, and son Nolen; daughter McClain & Bryson Chiles of Denver, sons Kade Walker and Ky Walker of Colorado Springs. Bob’s sister Ginger Davis lives in Dallas.
A visitation for Robert will be held Saturday, November 12, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at A&M Church of Christ, 2475 Earl Rudder Fwy S, College Station, TX 77845, followed by a memorial service at 4:00 PM.
