Robert Dean Merrell

Robert Dean Merrell (known by most as Bob or Bobby), 79, of College Station, Texas, passed away on November 22, 2022. He was survived by his faithful and loving wife, Sharon. She loved him unconditionally, and he also loved and adored her. He is also survived by three of his children, Denise Merrell Wong and her husband, Ricky; Matt Merrell and his wife, Jenn; and Debbie Merrell Lerner and her husband, Rodney, and stepchildren Curtis Young and Pam Kaminsky and her husband, Clay. In addition, he left behind nine grandchildren: Sean, Kane, Camden, Sherri, Seth, Caleb, Shane, Shawn, and Ryan, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Donny Merrell.

Bob was a man of few words, yet you always knew where you stood with him. He was also a charmer in his quiet way. In his younger days, he enjoyed racing cars, riding horses, traveling to Caribbean/Mexican beaches, and floating in the river. As a fan of Texas A&M University, he loved cheering for the Aggies, and we have many fond memories of attending football games with him. He was always an avid reader, usually enjoying books about politics. He was in car sales for most of his career. After retirement, he slowed down considerably yet still enjoyed watching the tide roll in at the beach and drinking a margarita or two. You would often find him at Maria Mia’s (formerly Ninfa’s) or home in the company of his Yorkies. He affectionately referred to his pups as “the girls.” His 4-legged companion, Gabby, survives him and misses him terribly.

His last words to Sharon were, “I love you, Precious,” which she will cherish forever.

Bob will be cremated and did not want a formal funeral service. Still, we hope you will join Sharon and the rest of the family for a visitation service scheduled for Saturday, December 17, 2022, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Chapel College Station at 2901 Texas Avenue, College Station, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, Aggieland Humane Society, or Tunnels to Towers Foundation. All three of these represent important causes to Bob.

A memorial visitation for Robert will be held Saturday, December 17, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Chapel College Station, 2901 Texas Avenue South, College Station, Texas 77845.
