She was born on October 27, 1943 in Vietnam, to Thang Van Tran (father) and Duom Thi Nguyen (mother). Ngoc Thu Tran married Thinh Van Truong on October 25, 1964 in Saigon, Vietnam and they raised five children, Tourane, Betty, Peggy, Tony, and Ben.
In 1980, she bravely escaped from Vietnam on a small boat with her two sons and youngest brother to find a better life in the United States after the Communist Party took over South Vietnam. Several years after becoming a U.S. citizen, she was finally reunited in Texas with her husband and three daughters in 1990. Mrs. Tran has been a long time resident of College Station since and retired from Texas A&M University.
During her free time, she enjoyed going on vacation trips with her family, learning how to cook new dishes, watching soccer games on the weekends, and spending time with her ten lovely grandchildren.
Ngoc Thu Tran is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and husband.
She is survived by her four sisters in Vietnam, one sister in Austin, her five children; Tourane Truong and her husband Tai Huynh, Betty Truong and her husband Anh Nguyen, Peggy Truong and her husband Don Le, Tony Truong and his wife Linda Barabasova, Ben Truong and his wife Thao Cao, and her ten grandchildren.
