Margaret Denton Richards

p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station. Funeral service will be held Friday, February

1, 2013 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Evergreen.

Margaret was born September 12, 1920 in Onalaska, Texas to William and Lucy Denton. She was the valedictorian of her graduating class in Onalaska. On January 20, 1940 she married her best friend and constant companion. She attended Free Will Baptist Bible College in Nashville, Tennessee and later attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. She was a 3rd grade school teacher in Fulton, Texas and Iola, Texas prior to her retirement in 1985. She taught a total of 21 years. She was a pastor’s wife for over 60 years. In every church they pastored, she taught the Beginner/Primary Sunday School class. She was also in charge of Children’s Church teaching young children the wonderful story of Jesus Christ. Her love for children was evident and children felt this love in the way they ran to “Mrs. Preacher”. She was actively involved in Women Active for Christ on both the local and state level. She will be remembered for her Christian testimony and love for her Savior Jesus Christ. She will be deeply missed by numerous family members and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother John Denton; 3 sisters Elizabeth King, Geneva Brewer and Emma Lee Brottlund; 1 great-grandson Kai Dean.

Survivors include her husband of 73 years Walter Richards of Bryan; daughter Marilu McDonald of Bryan; son Walter Eugene Richards and wife Ruth of Kingwood; 4 grandchildren Colby Richards and wife Jennifer of Groves, Megan and husband Chance Dean of Austin, Sarah Jones of Kingwood, and Morgan and husband Dustin Pierce of Bryan; 7 great-grandchildren Taylar Jones, Korin Dean, Alia Dean, Kara Dean, Isabella Richards, Victoria Richards, and Cash Pierce; 1 sister Lucy Blaschke of Schulenberg; 1 brother William Denton of Pearland; 1 sister-in-law Lela Clary of Bryan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Douglas, Clyde Goen, Tom Goen, John Ray Maxwell, Rory Meadors, Marvin Oldham, Jesse Ostiguin Jr, and Louis Watson.

The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the staff of Traditions Hospice for the care and compassion that they have shown. Thanks also to Arianna Harrison, Nicole Pena, and Lakeisha Minor for their loving devotion.
