Kay Carlisle Sanders, beloved wife, mother, daughter, and sister went to be with her heavenly father on December 4, 2012 at St. Joseph Hospital. Kay was born on August 22, 1962 in Dallas, Texas to Tom and Patricia Barron Carlisle. She grew up in Tulsa, Oklahoma and graduated from Memorial High School there. She attended Oklahoma State University where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority, and graduated with a degree in Nursing from Oklahoma University. She started her nursing career at Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles, California. While there she met the love of her life, Ben Sanders and they were married on November 19, 1988.
Kay and Ben moved to Northwest Arkansas and raised their three boys there. Kay worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rogers, Arkansas in the Neo Natal Intensive Care unit for many years. She loved the tiny babies and nothing brought her more pleasure that seeing them grow up into beautiful, healthy children. Kay loved her church and was active in all its activities. In Arkansas she taught Sunday School and was an Awana coordinator, and always walked with the Lord by her side.
She and her family moved to College Station in 2006. She was the Lab Skills Coordinator at Blinn School of Nursing for several years, and after an illness worked there part time. Kay and Ben were very involved with S.H.I.P. (Shelter the Homeless International Project) directed by Robert and Ann Horton of Bryan. One summer her family went to El Salvador to help build an orphanage and while there met four young people from the orphanage who had a great desire to go to college but knew there were no funds available. Kay returned to the States and found enough sponsors from her Sunday School class at Central Baptist to send these four young people to college for four years. They will graduate soon.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ben, her sons Benjamin Edward Jr., Barron Thomas, and Jordan Paul, her parents Tom and Patricia Barron Carlisle of College Station, brothers Wayne Carlisle and wife Gail of Anna, Texas, Randy Carlisle and wife Brittany of Dallas, Texas, and a sister Dr. Carolyn Gayle Carlisle Hacker and husband Joe of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, sisters and brothers-in-law Suzanne Hill and her husband Dr. Pete Hill of Kansas City, Kansas, Rosemary and Dr. Larry Bosma of Leona Valley, California, and Jeff Sanders, Jr. of Rogers, Arkansas, numerous family members, many friends, and her beloved dogs Benjy and Zoe, and cat Sassy.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents Pelham and Pauline Barron of Bryan, Ray and Mary Carlisle of Electra, Texas, Mother and Father-in-law Maude and Jeff Sanders of Garfield, Arkansas, and a cousin Clinton Hunter Smith of Bryan.
There will be a visitation Friday, December 7, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station. Funeral services will be held at Central Baptist Church Saturday, December 8 at 2:00.
