Harvey Franklin Shearer III died peacefully at home in College Station, Texas on February 1, 2024, just days after his 74th birthday and a celebration of his 50th wedding anniversary to the love of his life, Kathleen.
Harvey was born January 30, 1950 to Harvey and Ruth Mary Shearer in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and the family settled in Houston when Harvey was five. He graduated from Lamar High School in 1968 and from the University of St. Thomas Houston in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. From the time he was a teenager, Harvey worked in the family business, at one time the largest independent retailer of boots in the United States, including Country Boy Boots and Western Wear and Shoe World. When his family was young, he moved to Bryan-College Station. He worked for over two decades at Ply-Gem, formerly Alenco, and became Director of Purchasing.
Harvey could charm an entire room effortlessly when he wanted, yet always blushed at Kathleen’s smile. His children were blessed to know how much he loved them. Harvey enthusiastically watched Houston Rockets, Houston Astros, and Aggie sports and was happiest when playing sublime tunes throughout the house. There wasn't a day of his life he wasn't learning, and he had an insatiable curiosity for the wonders of the universe. In fact, he would always say, “We are all just stardust.” We picture him now among the stars, showering us with forever love, alongside his parents and sister.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey F. Shearer, Jr. and Ruth Mary Edminson Shearer, and his sister, Mary Emma Shearer Jackson. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Anne Shearer; daughters Caroline Anne Shearer and Mary Anne Shearer; son Alan Ross Shearer and his wife Kimberly Lynn and their children, Alivia Rose Shearer and Jackson Everett Shearer. He is survived by his brothers, Mark Wilton Shearer and Tom Lucus Shearer, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Memorial Funeral Chapel at 2901 Texas South in College Station will host visitation Friday, February 9 at 11a.m., with a rosary recited at 11:30 a.m. Liturgy of the Word Service will begin at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Aggie Field of Honor in the Memorial Cemetery of College Station at 3800 Raymond Stotzer Parkway.
In lieu of flowers, a remembrance donation may be made to Mount Carmel Rosary Guild of St. Joseph Catholic Church at 507 E. 26th St. Bryan, Texas 77803. The family wants to express gratitude for the many Latin Masses offered by loved ones.
