Doris Ann Guest Ashcraft was born on June 7, 1933 at Seaside Hospital in Long Beach, California. She was the only child of Herbert Colson Guest and Annie Milton Holcomb Guest. Doris lived in the Houston area throughout grade school and attended church at Heights Assembly of God. After graduating from Reagan High School in 1951, she attended school at South Texas Junior College and Massey Business College until she married.
For over a decade, Doris worked as a secretarial clerk for various businesses including Rudd & Wisdom Actuaries in Austin, and the Houston Post. Doris was involved in a multitude of voluntary leadership roles in the areas of education, theater, politics, and public service. Some of those organizations were: PTO, City of Baytown Bond Committees, School District Library and Junior High Advisory Committees, League of Women Voters, Baytown Little Theater, Citizens United for Education (founding member), Lakewood Subdivision Civic Club, and Baytown Cultural Arts Council.
In her later years, Doris returned to college in 1984 to pursue an Elementary Education degree, specializing in Early Childhood Education. She attended Lee College, graduating with honors, and later earned her education degree and certification from the University of Houston. She then taught in Pasadena Independent School District as a second grade teacher for ten years.
Doris is survived by three children; Diana and Scott Armstrong of Millican, TX, Thomas and Donna Ashcraft of Cedar Park, TX, and Steven and Angela Ashcraft of The Woodlands, TX; and nine grandchildren.
The Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station. A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 10, 2012 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station. Interment will follow at Wheat Cemetery in Millican, Texas.
