Dan Bates

Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 27 at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Bryan. Interment will follow at College Station Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 – 9 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station.

Dan was born in Stamford, Texas but grew up with his parents and four siblings in College Station. He graduated from A&M Consolidated High School 1963 and attended Houston Baptist College, where he was proud to be in the first graduating class of 1967. He then attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth where he earned his Masters of Divinity. He gladly served the Lord at churches in Oklahoma, Texas and Alabama as well as used his musical talents in several groups of singing men and quartets.

After retiring from ministry, Dan found a passion for performing at the Theater Company of Bryan where he was involved in numerous productions. He will always be remembered for his amazing voice. Dan was an avid stamp collector, loved gardening and lifelong Aggie fan.

Dan is preceded in death by his parents, C.H. and Corinne Bates; and two brothers, Clifton Bates and Harold Bates.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda (Sims) Bates of College Station; children, Dana Hart of College Station, Keri Isbell and husband Mitch of College Station, Jeff Bates and wife Stephenie of Prosper, Lisa Bradshaw and husband Billy of College Station; sister, Dorothy Galvin and husband Raymond of Houston; brother, Billy Bates and wife Carole of Waxahachie; mother-in-law, Flo Sims of College Station; sister-in-law, Brenda Bates of Midland; and proud pawpaw of nineteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Terry Jenkins, Julie Nugent, and the amazing nurses and staff at the CHI St. Joseph Cancer Clinic in Bryan. Also the gracious end of life care from Standards Hospice.
