Anna Carolyn Seaman, 68, of College Station, passed away on Wednesday, June 8, at Seton Hospital, in Austin. Visitation will be Sunday June 12, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station. Services will be Monday, June 13, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Bryan. Officiating will be the Reverends Harral Dunnam, Jeff Gage, and Rick Sitton. Burial will follow in the College Station Cemetery.
She was born September 28, 1942, the third of four children, to Otis and Maranda Hawkins, in Hillsboro, Ohio. She graduated from Whiteoak High School, earned a Bachelor’s degree in education from Morehead State University, and taught sixth grade at Hillsboro Elementary School. In 1965, she married Don Seaman and they moved to Tallahassee, Florida where Anna earned a Masters degree and the Doctor of Philosophy in Early Childhood Education at Florida State University.
They moved to Bryan in 1971 where Anna was subsequently employed as a lecturer and later, senior lecturer, in the Department of Educational Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education, Texas A&M University. During her career, she taught a variety of early childhood courses and supervised numerous student teachers in schools throughout the Brazos Valley. In addition, she developed and was the lead instructor of one of the first graduate courses in family literacy in the U.S.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Frank Hawkins, and her sister, Helen Bauchert.
She is survived by her husband, Don; her son, Roy Seaman, of Cibolo, Texas; her daughter, Linda Scroggs and husband, Norman, of Bryan; four grandchildren-Charity, Garrett, and Layne Scroggs, and Kindall Zemanek-Seaman, all of Bryan; one brother, Hansford Hawkins, Titusville, Florida; and one niece and two nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association or to the First United Methodist Church in Bryan.
