Walter David Williams (Walt) was born July 28, 1951, in Atlanta GA to Deacon Charlie and Marie Williams. He was preceded in death by a son, Antannyo Gilbert, both parents and siblings Olga Patricia Williams, Eddie Williams, Louise Clark, Charlie Williams Jr., Matthew Williams, Pauline Sims, and Annie Mae Hunter. On Thursday December 22, 2022, Walter David Williams transitioned peacefully.
Walter was very close to his father, his role model, who passed away during Walter’s sophomore year in high school. As children, Walter and his siblings attended church every Sunday and anytime the church doors were opened. Walter often mentioned that his father instilled in him family values, spiritual guidance, political beliefs and how to be a productive businessman. Education was very important to his father, so he encouraged Walter to follow his dreams. Walter joined the David T. Howard High School marching band his freshmen year. He marched and played the clarinet until he graduated in 1969. He learned to love many genres of music.
After graduating high school, he worked multiple jobs including Davison’s (Macy’s) until he started his career at Southern Bell in 1972, which later became AT&T. He retired as Manager after 43 years.
In July 1976 Walter and Bertha met. He was the father of a princess from a previous marriage, and she was mother of a prince and princess of a previous marriage. After a two-year romance, Walter (Yolanda) Williams and Bertha (Antannyo and Artisia) Tidwell Gilbert faithfully decided to blend their families on November 23, 1978, in holy matrimony.
Walter had great love for his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Walter leaves to cherish his memories a loving and highly devoted wife of 44 years Bertha Tidwell Williams, two daughters Yolanda Emiko Williams and Artisia LaTrisa Barnard, one daughter-in- law Shannon Gilbert, six grandchildren, Torez Miller, Cameron Taggart, DeShanique White, Decontee Barnard, DeJanee Jackson, Antavius Gilbert, two great-grandchildren Trenton White and Orion White, one brother Nathaniel Williams, two sisters Dorothy Williams and Marilyn Williams, two sisters-in-law Mary Heard and Leola Tidwell, one brother in-law Harry Tidwell.
God saw the road was getting rough
The hills were hard to climb
He gently closed those loving eyes
And whispered, “Peace Be Thine”.
The weary hours, the days of pain,
The sleepless nights are passed,
The ever patient worn out frame
Has found sweet rest at last.
