He was born on July 30, 1941, in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Owen Cargile, Sr. and Pearl (Womble) Cargile. Owen was a graduate of Howard High School in Atlanta, Georgia. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was stationed in San Diego, California for most of his military career. Upon discharge from the Navy, he received his certification as an electrician. He served as an electrician at Eastern Airlines, Northwest Airlines as well as working many years at Lockheed Martin in Marietta until his retirement.
Owen met and married his beloved wife, Lenora. He was stepfather to Dennis and Rodney Little. Born to Owen's union with his wife Lenora was their son Quincy Cargile.
Owen enjoyed cooking, repairing cars and yard maintenance. He was an avid bike rider. He loved entertainment of all kinds; jazz was his favorite music genre. He was a member of the Van Club. He enjoyed socializing regularly with close friends and family. He and Lenora enjoyed traveling, they often went on cruises together.
Owen was preceded in death by his wife; Lenora in October of 2024, as well as his niece; Marchelle Jackson.
He is survived by his son and constant caregiving companion Quincy Cargile, Quincy's daughter; Tamara, stepsons; Dennis (Lucinda) Little and Rodney (Maria) Little as well as his one and only, dearly loved sister; Marguerite (Cargile) Shannon of East Point, Georgia and his brother; Monte Cargile of Harrisburg, PA.
Owen will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren as well as a niece; Valerie Myrick and nephews; Dexter and Daryl Myrick.
The family of Owen Cargile, Jr. would like to express their appreciation to everyone who shared condolences and kindness through phone calls, text messages and prayers during this difficult time.
A memorial service for Owen will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 1:00 PM at The Gathering Place, 6280 Bryant Street, Union City, GA 30291.
