Malik Sharif Shipman, age 19, of Fairburn, Georgia, beloved son of Derrick Shipman and Temica Hayes, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2022. Malik Sharif Shipman was born July 30, 2002 in Atlanta Georgia.
Malik was very family oriented and is remembered for his friendly and loving personality. He had the ability to bring many people together. A true leader, always encouraging every around him. He was adored by his family and friends. Malik was known to be happy and the life of the party.
Shipman graduated Class of 2020 from Langston Hughes High School at age 17. While at Langston, he participated in the Culinary Arts program, Jr. ROTC and was a student athlete. He ran cross country his 9th and 10th grade years. His goals were to finish high school, join the US Army for some time, then come home and work with his dad and brother in real estate.
Immediately after high school, Malik joined the U.S. Army. He completed basic training in
Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and a couple months later graduated AIT training in Gulf Port, Mississippi.
Malik was stationed in Ft. Drum, New York where he was Private First Class . He was a Carpentry and Mason Specialist with the 642nd Engineer support company, 46th Engineer Battalion.
He completed the combat lifesavers course and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.
He is also survived by sister, Olivia Ravenel, brother, Christian Fountain, paternal grandparents, Jean Shipman (the late Edwin), maternal grandparents, Kenneth Hayes, Mary Hollis-Copeland (Larry), godmother, Tayata Harvey (Navarri), numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, loving family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Friday, July 15, 2022 from 5 p.m.- 8 p.m., and on Saturday, July 16, 2022 from 12 p.m. -1 p.m., at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 5755 Mallory Road, College Park, GA, 30349, where a funeral service to celebrate his life will immediately follow at 1 p.m.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
