He was born to Marcus and Hester Howard on April 2, 1948, in Bainbridge, Georgia. He was known as Ernie to his friends and family.
Ernie was educated in the Decatur County School System, graduating from Hutto High School in 1966. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, after completing his time in the military, he was honorably discharged in 1970. After serving his country, Ernie moved to Atlanta, GA, where he enrolled in Business College, from there he attended Georgia State University.
Ernie was employed by City of Atlanta, Norfolk Southern Railway and Fulton County Superior Court.
Ernie’s love for baking led him to launch a small business E. T. Cakes; he baked the most delicious cakes and was proud to share them with his friends, colleagues, and family. He was an avid runner, who not only loved sports and outdoors; he inspired others to stay active. He organized the annual Kaiser Permanente Race/ Walk for Fulton County Superior Court Clerk’s office

Ernie was a hard-working, honorable man who was known for living life to the fullest. He loved entertaining and truly enjoyed the camaraderie of family and friends. He left an indelible impression on all who knew him and will be sorely missed by countless friends, family, and colleagues.
Ernie took on the responsibility of rearing his younger siblings who preceded him in death; Terri R. Howard, and Colavito J. Howard. He was also preceded in death by his parents Marcus and Hester Howard; and his siblings Henry Howard and Evon Allen.
He is survived by his son Everette Porter (Sonja), Augusta Georgia; his sister Barbara Spinks (Charles) Rochester, New York; his sister Patricia Howard Fairburn, Georgia; Vivian Daniels (Leroy); grandchildren Michelle, Monique and Maurice Porter, Augusta Georgia; Aunts Mary Lee Bryant, Miami Florida and Annie Laura Johnson, Gary Indiana and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
