Ellen was born in Hamilton, Ohio September 29, 1927 to Virgil and Leota S. (Inloes) Otto and graduated from Reily High School in 1945. Ellen was formerly employed at Kaiser Agricultural Chemicals as secretary for ten years and was an exceptional seamstress who utilized her passion as her profession for sixteen years. Ellen loved to make her own clothing and specialty items for her family. She was very active, supportive and devoted in the lives of her children, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ellen dedicated her life to their success and relished in their accomplishments, big or small. The essence of Ellen was rooted in her generosity and kindness. She enjoyed playing the piano and the organ especially at Reily Presbyterian Church where she also taught Sunday school. Ellen was determined to stay active throughout her life. She loved to quilt and learned how to paint at eighty-eight years old.
Ellen is survived by her sons and their spouses: Darrell K. Lohrey and Nelda of Hamilton, Ohio; David E. Lohrey and Tari of Lewisville, Ohio; Doyle R. “Dude” Lohrey and Katie of Oxford, Ohio; step-sons and their spouses: Bob Lowery and Sue of Hamilton, Ohio; Mark Lowery and Karen of Fairfield, Ohio; her daughter-in-law: Bonita Riddle of Oxford, Ohio; her brother and sister-in-law: Virgil Otto and Patricia of Oxford, Ohio; her sisters-in-law: Eleanor Otto of Bath; Loretta Otto; Rose Otto, both of Hamilton, Ohio; thirteen grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and one step great grandchild, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Ellen was preceded in death by her husband and father of her children, Virgil Keith Lohrey who died March 13, 1992; her second husband: John Robert Lowery; her son Douglas W Lohrey: her brothers: Merle “Bud” Otto, Harry L. Otto and Morris O. Otto; her grandson: Bryn Lohrey; her granddaughter-in-law: Melissa Lohrey and her great grandson, Corbin Lohrey.
Funeral services for Ellen will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, November 19, 2018 at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Baker Chapel, College Corner, Ohio. Interment will follow in College Corner Cemetery, West College Corner, Indiana. Friends may visit at the funeral home Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service where memorial contributions may be made at the funeral home to the Reily Presbyterian Church.
