Janice Ann (Custer-Reed) Childers passed away Thursday, March 31, 2016. She was born August 24, 1942 in Marshall to Samuel Lee and Maudie (Bradley) Custer. She was the 2nd of 5 children. She married Thomas Childers on October 3, 1970 in Coldwater.
Janice was a lifelong resident of the area, living in Homer and Coldwater. She had worked at Midwest Foundry for a short time, leaving to raise the children. After they attended school she turned her attention to the elderly, first working at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility for 20 years, and then operating an Adult Foster Care for 25 more, retiring in 2014.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas, 3 sons; Robert Reed of Coldwater, Kevin and Laura (Marshall) Reed of Coldwater, Ronald Reed of Burlington, 4 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, 4 brothers; Kenneth & Charlotte Custer of Georgia, Larry & Marilyncita Custer of the Philippines, Gary & Buena Custer of Wasilla, AK and Randy & Dorothy Custer of Wasilla, AK. Janice was preceded in death by a son, Earl Lee Reed, Jr., mother, Maudie, and father, Samuel.
Visitation will be Friday Apr. 8th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday April 9th from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. with the services to follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Putnam Funeral Home. No graveside service will be held. A luncheon will follow the service at the Comfort Inn and Suites (Banquet Room) 1000 Orleans Blvd., exit 13 behind the Laurels, and off North Michigan Avenue. The burial will take place at Albion Memory Gardens, 26905 B Dr. S, in Albion at 2:00 p.m. for those who would like to go to the cemetery.
