William R. Hedden, Jr., an avid fisherman and 17 year resident of Sebastian, Fl. passed away October 27,2011 at Parrish Medical Center in Titusville, Fl.
Born January 24, 1925 in Kearney, New Jersey, Mr. Hedden was a US Navy War Veteran and served aboard the USS SHANGRI-LA during WWII. He was a Second Class torpedoman, "Plankowner" and active member of the USS SHANGRA-LA Survivor Association.
Mr. Hedden recently lost his wife to cancer in June of 2011.
His lifetime achievements include being a proud member of the American Legion, Post 189 for over 50 years, a member of the UA Local # 725 Steamfitters Union for over 50 years, a member of the Order Of Masons and an honored sponsor of Boys Town Of America.
Mr. Hedden is survived by Mr. William and Linda Hedden and son Brian of Charleston, SC, Mr. John D. and Scarlett Hedden of Port St. John, Mr. David R. and Colleen Hedden and daughters Ellie Mack and Andrew Hedden of Warwick, RI; Mr. Mark E. and Betsy Hedden and daughters Samantha, Becca and son Jeffrey of East Providence, RI. He is also survived by his beloved step-daughter, Jane Maturi and her husband Dan of Bethlehem, Pa, and step-granson and wife and their son Carl and Heidi Signore of Palmerton PA. Mr. Robert "Bobby" (Hedden) and Carol Chirmside of Middletown, New Jersey. Known through his life as "Bill", "Ray" and "Uncle Will" he was creative, innovative and knowledgeable in so many fields. He was an avid sportsman and fisherman who loved the outdoors.
