Steve was born in Denver, Colorado. His family eventually relocated to Central Florida in the 1970`s. He enlisted in the United States Army after high school where he spent three years serving at Fort Polk, Louisiana.
His career spanned the mortgage, aerospace logistics, and construction industries, but his true passion was found in landscaping. He owned several commercial and residential design landscape companies in Brevard County, Florida over the years, including his own tree farm. He could tell you the botanical name of any plant or tree on command and you could often find him tending to his backyard garden in his downtime.
For 10 years, he dedicated his time, taught studies, and shared the love of Jesus with men battling addiction at the Restoration House, part of His Place Ministries in Melbourne, Florida. His mentorship brought many men to know and love the Lord.
But his biggest pride and source of joy was his wife, Connie. Together for 37 years, they were soulmates in every sense of the word. He was also a loving father to his two daughters, Nicole and Kim, and grandpa to his five grandchildren - Campbell, Morgan, Tanner, Cameron, and Charlotte. He was a hands-on grandpa - playing, nurturing, and guiding each of them as they grew. It was a role he was born for.
Steve is preceded in death by his mother, Rosalea Johnson, sister Susan Collier, and son Stephen Johnson, Jr. In addition to his wife, daughters, and grandchildren, he is survived by his son-in-law Brandon, sisters Barbara (Dave) and Christine (Steve), brother Ted (Jody), and sister-in-law Maria.
Steve was a man of strong faith and we find comfort that he is at least at peace.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 18 at 11 a.m. at Church at Viera in Viera, Florida. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Steve’s memory.
