Born in Jacksonville, Florida, Linda met Benny C. Smith in the 8th grade. The two were married on June 7, 1962, the day she graduated from high school. Together they moved to Port St. John in 1980. She was of the Baptist faith.
Linda went to school in Birmingham, Alabama to become a dental hygienist, a job she enjoyed for many years before she and her husband opened Corky Bell's Seafood Restaurant. Linda and her husband, Benny, owned and operated the restaurant until they retired in 2013. Prior to owning the restaurant, Linda volunteered her services and time to the Red Cross in Alaska. She also taught dental assisting at BCC for a number of years.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Benny C. Smith; three children: Athena L. Kimble, Cherie' D. Williams, and Damen S. Smith Sr.: two brothers: William B. Austin and Aubray Varnes; sister, Patricia Freeman; eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Ashley.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 28, 2016 from 10-11AM with a funeral service following at 11AM at Brevard Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow the services at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims.
