Gary Allen Tyler Sr.

Gary graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School, Class of 1964, and went on to attend trade school after graduation. He worked as a meat cutter for over 40 years. Gary enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was a passionate music lover, with an extensive knowledge of the history behind songs, songwriters, and singers. Elvis Presley was one of his favorites, and he had the opportunity to attend one of Elvis’s concerts in 1975 at the WV Civic Center. Gary was also a star basketball player at Stonewall Jackson High and was a big fan of Larry Bird. Known for his corny jokes, Gary found joy in the simple things in life. He loved a good hot dog, especially when prepared in the West Virginia style (with chili, slaw, mustard, and onions). Gary was the best at keeping secrets and always offered wise advice. To say he will be greatly missed is truly an understatement.

Gary was the son of the late Irene Ollie Metten and Allen Tyler, Jr. of WV. He was preceded in death by his sister, Imogene Tyler Slappe, and is survived by his brothers, Larry Tyler and Calvin Tyler, both of WV.

He is also survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Janet Lynn Tyler; his daughter, Penny Tyler Burchfield (and her husband David); his sons, Gary Allen Tyler, Jr. (and his wife Michele) and Matthew Allen Tyler (and his wife Tina). His grandchildren include Tyler Bryson Tyler (and his wife Carissa), Stephanie Hebert (and her husband Teddy), Chelsea Burchfield, Brianna Martin (and her husband Coby), Haley Felder, Matthew Tyler, Jr. (and his wife Gracie), Garrett Tyler, and Jake Tyler. His great-grandchildren are Tegan Tyler, Emery Tyler, Paisley Hebert, and Harper Tyler.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home (Dignity Memorial), located at 1360 N. Courtenay Parkway, Merritt Island, FL 32953. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with the funeral service immediately following. Burial will take place at Brevard Memorial Park, located at 320 Spring Street, Cocoa, FL 32927.
