Fannie Ugarte passed away on October 10, 2024 at Rockledge Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on June 4, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY, the beloved daughter of Josephine Lauria De Quarto and Peter De Quarto, Sicilian immigrants that obtained citizenship and worked hard as American citizens.
Fannie had an older brother, Dominick De Quarto of Ardonia, NY and a sister Concetta De Quarto Miller of Clintondale, NY, both deceased.
Fannie was a very warm, loving, kind person with a funny, friendly, outgoing personality and would never hesitate to stop and talk to a stranger and make them laugh. She was truly a people magnet.
In 1963 Fannie married the love of her life, Vincent Ugarte Jr. of Newburgh, NY who served in the Navy and then worked at New York Bell as a telecom technician lineman. Shortly after marriage, they decided to leave the cold weather and come to Florida to enjoy the year-round fun Florida offers. Vincent obtained a job transfer to Cocoa Beach, Florida to work for Southern Bell, now called AT&T. They purchased their first home in South Merritt Island, Florida and started a family. They had 3 daughters and 1 son. In 1969 they bought a home on 4 acres in North Merritt Island and decided to raise their family in a country setting.
Fannie was an amazing mother and homemaker and was devoted to her family. She loved cooking, loved animals, and she also had a green thumb and loved gardening. She had the most beautiful Meyer lemon tree and a tangerine tree which she cherished and always shared their fruit with neighbors. Later when her children were grown, she decided to obtain her Cosmetology certification, and she also assisted with instruction at the hair school. She also worked at Premier Cruise Lines as a guide.
Fannie also was passionate about her Sicilian heritage and made sure her family knew about her ancestors and their stories. She loved the Lord and raised her children to be loving and kind and to know Jesus as well.
Fannie is survived by her loving husband Vincent Ugarte Jr.; her daughter Pilar Ugarte Stanley of Rockledge, FL; her daughter Yvonne Ugarte Simmons and her husband Wayne Simmons of Merritt Island, FL; her daughter Caroline Ugarte Rowe of Merritt Island, FL; her son Vincent Ugarte III and his wife Kate Ugarte of Merritt Island, FL; and her 9 grandchildren, Whitney Simmons, Brandon Simmons, Matthew Rowe, Natalie Rowe, Elin Ugarte, Haven Ugarte, Angela Stanley, Elizabeth Stanley and Joshua Stanley; and her 3 great-grandchildren Indie Simmons, Kyrie Simmons and Zealan Simmons.
