Donald R. Small passed away peacefully at home on June 27, 2011. He was born on June 7, 1933 to Robert and Ethel Small in Pitsburgh, Ohio.
He served in the U.S. Air Force and he was honorably discharged in 1956. He married Annette A. Florand of Manchester, NH on April 24, 1954 and together raised 5 children. They moved to Cocoa, Fl in 1958.
Donald worked as a civilian contractor with Pan Am World Services and Johnson Controls for 38 years at the Air Force Eastern Test Range in Cape Canaveral until he retired in 1996.
He is survived by brother, Jack Small; sisters, Phyllis Barnhart and Shirley Zavala, all of Troy Ohio; and his five children, Cheryl, Jeff (Terri Scott), Rebecca (Solomon Elmore) all of Florida, David (LuAnn Beauchemin) of Connecticut, Teresa (Kevin Searock) of Wisconsin; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and three brothers, Robert of Ohio and Marvin and John William of Fl.
He was a dedicated member of St. Mary's Catholic community in Rockledge for over 50 years and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Brevard SPCA or to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, June 30, 2011 from 6 to 8 PM at Brevard Memorial Funeral Home in Cocoa. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, July 1, 2011 at 11 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rockledge. Interment will follow at Brevard Memorial Park.
