David H. Kalm (94) passed away peacefully on October 16, 2022 at his home in Merritt Island. He was born September 12, 1928 in Camden, NJ and raised in New Gretna, NJ. He graduated from Tuckerton High School in 1946. He worked many jobs from clamming in a Garvey to being the captain of the SEA HAWK, his charter fishing boat. Sportswriters and others came from Philadelphia and chartered with him because he caught fish! He worked for D. B. Steinman building the Garden State Parkway, and was a toll taker when it was completed.
He was predeceased by his parents Otto and Monica Kalm, his brother Fred Kalm and his son David H Kalm Jr. He is survived by his wife Barbara; his sister Claire (Alston) Allen; his daughters Jael (Earl) Sweigart and Tracey (Bryan) Holmes and his son Kirk Kalm. Dave is also survived by his grandchildren Jennifer Sweigart, Earl Sweigart Jr, Sandra Sweigart, Scott (Mandy) Sweigart, Rachel (Jonathan) Stanley, Matthew Holmes, Reagan Holmes, Kelly Kalm and Kathy Kalm and seven great-grandchildren.
David married Barbara in 1963 and moved to Florida. He worked for two plumbing companies before becoming a Master Plumber. He opened his own business, Dave Kalm Plumbing, which has been in business for 50 years.
David loved boat racing, fishing, hockey and gardening. He enjoyed racing his 5L. hydroplane named “Plumbers Friend”. David passed down his love for fishing to his grandchildren and at least one great-grandchild. David played hockey, was an off-ice official for hockey and owned a Junior A hockey team. David had a great garden that family and friends benefitted from.
David’s greatest love was for JESUS. David was known as Sunday School Superintendent for life!
The family will have a private graveside service at Brevard Memorial Park. A Memorial Service followed by a reception will be held Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 11:30am at Faith Presbyterian Church, 1900 S. Tropical Trail, Merritt Island, FL 32952.
