Charles Lamott Purdie, 74, of Cocoa Florida, passed away on Monday, October 26th, 2020 at home. He was born in Elizabethtown, North Carolina, and came to Brevard County in 1964. In 1966 he married Annie Mae Byrd, mother of Gilbert, Billy, and Sherica and to their union was born Brenda and Alfonza. Annie preceded him in death after a 40 year union in 2007.
Charles worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for the Kennedy Space Center. He was a proud member of the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church of City Pointe, Mason Lodge 685, and the Brevard Cobras Dart Club.
During his life, Charles had a wealth of hobbies. He was a prolific fisherman and enjoyed gardening and riding his motorcycle. He adored his grandchildren and loved spending time with them.
Charles is survived by his wife, Deloris Purdie of Cocoa, his five daughters; Brenda Kelly (Etienne) of Cocoa, Sherica Jordan (Amin) of Cocoa, Signe Rogers of Cocoa, Rosa McGee of Orlando, and Grace Black of Tampa, and his four sons; Gilbert Byrd (Barbara) of Cocoa, Billy Byrd (Luctria) of Cocoa, Antonio Collins Jr. (Frederica) of Palm Bay, and Carlton Collins (Tiarra) of Cocoa. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren. Charles was preceded in death by his son; Alfonza Purdie in 1980.
A visitation will be held at Brevard Memorial Funeral Home, 5475 North, US-1, Cocoa, FL 32927 on November 6th, 2020 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at Faith Temple Christian Center, 836 Ferndale Ave., Rockledge FL 32955 on Saturday, November 7th, 2020 at 11 AM with interment to follow in Brevard Memorial Park.
