 Another bright light extinguished way too early. I didn't know him or his family, just want to let the family know that I will pray for CJ and the entire family. May God grant you peace and happy memories of a treasured life.

CJ was an extraordinary young man.  Our son Cory met him during his first 2 years at CHS.  Occasionally they would hang out together as teenage boys do and we were able to get to know what a driven,  kind and respectful young man he was.  I remember his "yes ma'am's",  how much he loved to eat, how he made us all laugh and how happy he was every time we saw him.  I would always get a big hug when he would visit and I would make sure I had plenty of food  for him to enjoy.  His first year in the Navy, I sent him an Easter basket and remembered how excited he was to receive it and he told me all about the things he was learning, what life was like learning to be a sailor and how much he missed his family.  There was never a moment that I every encountered anything but a sweet, smiling face from him.  I will always remember and carry that with me.  He will be missed and my heart is heavy with the loss that his family must carry.  Our deepest sympathies and prayers go out to all that had the honor of knowing such a fine young man and sailor.

The day Cory left for bootcamp, CJ was the one friend from Cocoa High that came to see him off and wish him well.  It meant so much to my son and to me.  He was a wonderful friend.

There were a lot of tears.  As Cory departed, CJ stayed with Angelena and I until the bus pulled away.  He was a sweet boy with a kind and warm heart.

CJ was never without a smile. For so many people, when you picture them, you have a dozen moods and expressions you can call to mind. Not for this kid. Nothing but a grin, ever. His energy was contagious. He was a bouncing-on-the-balls-of-his-feet kind of guy and radiated fun and optimism. Everyone liked him. How could you not? I'm grateful for the school year I had with him as a sophomore and for the achievements he continued to collect that I could quietly celebrate here. You raised him well. He reflected everything he was taught and treated everyone else like they were special. This loss is enormous even beyond the family who feel it so acutely. I am so sorry. I'll never forget him.

To Cj you were amazing, a light to everyone, the greatest friend anyone could ask for. These memories you leave with us will forever stay. Now to Woody thank you for laughter until I snorted like a pig and cried thank you for being that person when you or I needed each other to talk to. You brought so much joy to everyone’s life.  Keep singing in the beautiful Heaven skies.  “You’ve got a friend in me”

Blood wasn’t what made us family. It was the actions we showed towards each other that made us family. I first met CJ when he was 13 at the Boutwell family reunion in 2012. I was sitting in the water by myself, but he knew I was there with someone. So he came into the water and walked over to me and asked “who are you here with?” And I said my brother is dating Julie, but they’ve only been dating a few months. He then said to me, “that doesn’t matter, we’re cousins now, and from this point on, we’ll be cousins no matter what happened between Jasten and Julie”and I believed him whole heartedly! We became so close after that, and was one of my best friends. He had this laugh, that when he laughed, it was so infectious that you were laughing too even if matters didn’t call for laughing. He had this smile that was just as infectious and could brighten up your day! I always called him my real life Scotty Mcreery, because he resembled him so much, and even sounded like him when he sang.  Give Heaven some hell, CJ. I love you kiddo, and your memories will live on!


Cj was the kindest human being, I am beyond grateful to have met him and have such great memories. He taught me a lot in JROTC and I’m glad the opportunity was given to me, he will deeply be missed and forever appreciated by not only me but many others as well 

We are so sorry to hear of CJs passing. He was a great person to be around. His smile was contagious as were his dancing moves in Marching band. He will be missed. The family is in our thoughts and prayers
