Ben was born February 3, 1950 in Chambersburg, PA. He was the son of Chester D. Cook and Esther M. (Stockslager) Cook. He graduated from Chambersburg Area Senior High School in 1968 and married his high school sweetheart, Darlene (Lininger) in 1976. They moved with their sons to Brevard County, FL in 1979.
Ben spent his first years in Florida as the owner of Cook’s Home Remodeling. He retired as Public Works Manager for the City of Cocoa Beach. He loved to hunt and maintained a bountiful vegetable garden. He started most days with a ride on his beloved bicycle and came home to work in his yard and huge workshop. Many happy days were spent with his fellow leaders of their son’s Indian Guide tribes. As the sons grew the leaders became “The Stale Chips”, true friends for life.
Ben is predeceased by his parents. Surviving are his wife Darlene Cook and two sons Shane Howell (Cissy) of Satellite Beach and Daniel (Holly) Cook of Merritt Island. Also surviving are three grandchildren; Alex and Benjamin (Kaliana) Howell, both of California, and Maci Cook of Merritt Island. He is also survived by one great-granddaughter, Luna Howell, his brother Sherwood Cook (Cathy) of Chambersburg and his sister Bonnie Mack (Don) of Hernando, FL.
At Ben’s request, services will be at the convenience of the family.
