Born in Chapman, Alabama on August 3, 1930 to Curtis Timothy Adams and Verma Alene Jones Adams, Max was the oldest of 6 siblings.
Max married the love of his life, Elouise on March 17, 1950, at Whitfield Baptist Church in Pensacola, Florida. The couple moved to Lake Jackson, Texas in 1956 with 2 young daughters and later were blessed with a third. Together they happily raised their family in Lake Jackson for many beautiful years. Max enjoyed caring for and spending time with his family, gardening, playing golf, painting, watching the Houston Astros, fishing and cooking his famous beans, turnip and collard greens and cornbread.
Max was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1952 to 1954 in Korea and later became a Master Mason in 1969. After his service in the military, Max worked for 34 years at Dow Chemical in Freeport, Texas and retired in 1991.
Max and Elouise have been members of First Baptist Church Lake Jackson, Texas since 1965. They both enjoyed taking trips around the country with their Sunday School group and playing board and card games with them every month.
Max is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Elouise Adams; 3 daughters, Cheree Kardenetz (husband Phillip), Barbara Patzke (husband Jay) and Lynne Davies (husband John); sister Johnnie Carol Adams Mead and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family. Max was a very kind, gentle and loving father, Papa, brother, uncle and friend.
Preceding Max in death was his father and mother, 3 brothers (Samuel Eugene Adams, Guy Adams, Jackie Adams), 1 sister (Peggy Jo Adams Pittman) and great-grandson (Christian Holloman).
Max will be greatly missed by his family and friends. They live with the assurance that they will see him once again in Heaven. Max’s favorite Bible verse gives us all comfort in the midst of this difficult time, reminding us of the hope of Jesus Christ: I will never leave you nor forsake you. (Hebrews 13:5)
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Max’s honor to any of these organizations: Samaritan’s Purse, St. Jude, Shriner’s Children Hospital, or SMILE.
