William M. Neely, 84, of Lake Jackson, Texas passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2011. He was born November 15, 1926 in LaGrange, Georgia to L. D. & Elsie Neely. Bill loved fishing, gardening and his family. He was a cancer survivor and was very proud of his many years (36+) service to Dow Chemical and to the United States Navy. He served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He earned a Bronze Star for helping save the U. S. S. Lexington and many lives when a Kamikaze hit the ship in the middle of the night. He married Melda Savoy on April 2, 1950 and had just celebrated 61 years of marriage. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters. He is survived his loving wife, Melda Neely of Lake Jackson; daughters, Jill Neely Clark of Lake Jackson, Joyce Neely Meyer of Oyster Creek; grandsons, Rocky Thomas of Clear Lake, Zack Boone of Lake Jackson, Tyler & Ryan Clark of Lake Jackson; granddaughter, Jordan Meyer of Oyster Creek. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, April 21, 2011 in the Restwood Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to the service. Entombment will follow in the Restwood Memorial Park Garden of Peace Mausoleum with grandsons and friends serving as pallbearers.
