Vickie was born July 20, 1945, in San Angelo, Texas, to Mary Lee and Lester Hodges.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her stepdad Andy Anderson, and her brother, James Hodges.
She is survived by her sister Carole Murray, sister in law Jackie Hodges-Jones, longtime special friend Wallace Jones, daughter Renee and three grandchildren.
Vickie’s heartfelt mission in life was to help her neighbors in need. She chose to work for nonprofit organizations who were on the frontline serving others.
She held executive positions in several local community organizations throughout her 40 year career, beginning with starting up ActionS of Brazoria County. From there she moved first to Waco then Corpus Christi heading up the YWCA at both locations.
Returning to this area she led the Boys and Girls Club of both Galveston and Brazoria Counties. Under her leadership the Freeport Branch was established.
She also served for several years as Executive Director of Gateway to Care Inc. in Houston, TX and the Brazoria County Youth Home, a residential care facility affiliated with the Texas Department of Family And Protective Services. The Children’s Center in Galveston followed, merging with Brazoria County’s Youth Home.
At the time of her death, Vickie was Executive Director of Brazosport Medical Center in Freeport, serving medically underserved persons providing a central location for medical, dental, vision and prescription assistance.
Vickie is a 1963 graduate of Brazosport High School and later earned a BA degree from the University of Houston. She has been an active member of the Brazosport Rotary Club since 1995 and was a Paul Harris Fellow.
A memorial gathering will be held at Restwood Funeral Home at 1038 W. Plantation Drive in Lake Jackson from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 28.
