On September 21, 1968, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Rebecca Loyce (Becky) Kennard, in Clute, Texas. They made their home I Brazoria, Texas where they raised six sons, and made a lifetime of memories.
Roger graduated from Brazosport High School in 1960, was drafted into the Army in 1966, and served in the Vietnam War from 1967-1968. While in the military, he received many accolades for his service. Upon leaving the military, he continued working in local refineries, opened B&R Paint and Body Shop, and was a part-owner of TAP Industrial Services. Roger retired in 2013 and Becky and his family have kept him busy ever since.
Roger enjoyed hunting deer, dove, pheasant, geese, or going fishing in his boat. Fishing “Reds” was one of his favorite hobbies, and it was always a plus if he caught a flounder while fishing, because his wife Becky loved to eat them. He looked forward to watching his grandchildren paly sports and loved surfing Facebook with Becky to see the pictures and videos of his family, which was his greatest joy.
Roger loved the Lord with all his heart. He was a licensed preacher with the Southern Baptist Convention. For many years, he traveled across Texas and various other states with his family and close friends singing Southern Gospel. He served on the worship team at His Grace Assembly in Sweeny; Central Assembly in Angleton; and Shady Acres Baptist Church in Brazoria, where he played the piano, bass, lead guitar, and acoustic guitar.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his wife of 52 years; Rebecca Loyce; his sons, Roger (Tami) of Vermont, Ricky (Sharon) of Brazoria, Ragin (Paige) of Sweeny, Ryan (Cari) of Midland; daughter in laws, Dena Pate, and Donna Pate Corley; and numerous grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Vestul and Fronie Pate; his brother, Frank Pate; sons Randy and Rodney Pate; and grandson, Mitchell Pate.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday June 1, 2021 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Restwood Funeral Home, 1038 W. Plantation Dr, Clute, Texas 77531.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday June 2, 2021 at 12:00pm at Shady Acres Baptist Church, 18034 CR 463, Brazoria, Texas 77422; followed by the Graveside Service at Restwood Memorial Park.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Nick Collums, Ken Corley, TJ Halstead, Jake Myers, Connor Pate, Dylan Pate, Kaden Pate, Noah Pate, and Steven Slaughter.
Honorary Pallbearers are Leo Brock, Gabe Friudenberg, Gary Friudenburg, Thomas Friudenburg, Lonnie Key, Gene Pell, Jerry Roy, Ronnie Stewart, Harry Wilkes, and Harvey Wright.
