Bob was born on October 29, 1941, to Viola and Donald Sipple in Madison, Wisconsin.
Bob grew up in Madison, Wisconsin and met the love of his life Lori after high school where they both worked for the State of Wisconsin. Lori and Bob were married in Madison on October 7, 1961.
After several relocations, they settled in Lake Jackson, where Bob and Lori resided for over 45 years. Bob commenced his career at Wholesale Electric in Clute and eventually ascended to the position of President. Following Wholesale Electric, he worked for C3Controls for several years. While working, Bob actively participated in numerous organizations. His involvement demonstrated not only his commitment to his profession but also his profound passion for the city, community, and its residents.
Bob held numerous board positions and was involved in various associations, including: Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Board, BASF CAP Advisory Panel member, Bond Task Force member, President of BCCA, American Builders and Contractors Board member, Charter Board Member of ACIT, Junior Achievement Board member, HGAC Board member, Brazosport CAP, OLGP Board member, and BISD Education Foundation Board member, among others.
One of his proudest accomplishments was being Mayor of Lake Jackson. He is the 3rd longest-serving Mayor for the City (serving a total of 8 years and 6 months). His terms were May 2006-May 2012 and May 2018-November 2020. During his tenure as Mayor, he contributed to developing the city’s Strategic Planning Process. His response to Hurricane Ike included ensuring that Bob and Lori’s house were one of the last houses to get power. He played a significant role in the Brazos Oaks Subdivision Improvements, Renovation of the old Fire Department into the City’s Municipal Court Building, and the City’s Emergency dispatch area and Emergency Operations Center. He facilitated a bond for $9 million for the last phase of the City’s Downtown Revitalization Project. Additionally, he helped negotiate the Industrial District Program in 2011 and assisted in building the Creekside subdivision, among other contributions to the community.
According to his daughters, two notable memories of their father include him participating in the Festival of Lights Parade with the police department every November, along with their mother. He took pride in this activity and enjoyed seeing the residents celebrating their city. Additionally, he played a significant role in bringing the restaurant Texas Roadhouse to Lake Jackson. A booth was dedicated to him and it was always available whenever they visited. Their father FREQUENTLY encouraged his daughters to visit both the parade and the restaurant!
Bob’s hobbies consisted of running (began at the age of 34 with logging over 40,000 miles) with his buddies then meeting up at Whataburger. While the running may have ceased for Bob, meeting his buddies at Whataburger continued for many years. Bob ran 25 marathons, including the New York City Marathon 4 times. Along with some of his running buddies, Bob biked 15 MS 150’s which is a two-day, fundraising bike tour for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Bob was an avid Houston Oilers and Houston Texans football fan with season tickets for over 40 years. Bob loved to see car shows and enjoyed playing golf in his younger years.
Bob always made time for his family. He dedicated his life to being a wonderful, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle.
As his daughters were going through some of his treasures, they found a candidate card for one of his times running for Mayor. There was a quote by him on the card “I have the experience and passion to work for you.” Those are powerful words that sums up every aspect of their Dad.
