Robert D. Moreno, 73, of Freeport, Tx. passed away on May 26, 2023. Robert was born on February 6, 1950 to Basilio “Cowboy” Sr. and Anita Moreno of Freeport, Tx. Robert met the Love of his Life Carolyn Lara Moreno and they married on November 11, 1966 in Freeport, Tx. They went on to have two Children, Abel Earl Moreno and Adrian Guadalupe Moreno.
In 1968, Robert worked his first job at the Gas Company for 6 years as a welder/gas meter reader and at times worked at the Ice House in the evening to make ends meet; he later joined Dow Chemical as an Operator in May 1974. He worked for Dow for 35 years and retired in 2009. He worked in several Plants: Benzene, Ethylbenzene, a few years in Logistics, and then Styrene where he led his colleagues as a Production Foreman.
Robert was a superb athlete who played football, basketball, track, and baseball during his youth. He was so fast that he earned the nickname “Cheetah”. He played semi-pro baseball for the Freeport Eagles and Pirates. Some of his softball Teams were the St. Henry’s Saints, Cardinals, Barons, and Los Comancheros. Robert was the avid Golfer who enjoyed the heck out of playing in Scrambles, Tournaments, and Fundraisers especially if they were for a good cause. He loved the game of Baseball and his Houston Astros whose games he frequently attended with his Family. In his earlier years he loved to go fishing, play bowling, and volleyball but Golf continuously won him over. He supported his kids and grandkids in all their Education, Sports, Special events and he even Coached Little League after his kids finished playing. If you were an acquaintance of Robert, you knew how much he loved “Tejano Music” and of course he and Mom would dance the night away…….
He is survived by his wife of 57 years Carolyn Lara Moreno; and his sisters, Carmen, Eleanora, Geneva, and Carolina. Robert loved to gather with his family whether it be at a ballgame, a movie, or a restaurant especially if it involved his 7 grandchildren, Alena, Aaron, Ashlin, Ayden, Alexia, Ayson, and Adelynn. Also, his daughter-in law Wanda (Abel’s Spouse) and more recently grand daughter-in-law Kinzie (Aaron’s spouse).
He is preceded in Death by his parents Basilio and Anita Moreno; brothers Abel, Rudy, and Richard; and sister Rosa.
