Bob was born to Robert Boyd Brown, Sr., and Doris Jean Brown on June 26, 1943, in Clairton, Pennsylvania. He was a former resident of New Buffalo, Michigan; Baytown, Texas; Trussville and Guntersville, Alabama.
Bob married Linda Glick in Lake Jackson, TX on September 29, 1995. Bob was previously married to Sherriann Brown with whom he shares three children, Rob, Ryan, and Alison.
After graduating with a biology degree from Thiel College, Bob followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather by joining US Steel Corporation in 1965 as a management trainee. His career spanned 38 years, and his assignments took his family and him to Gary, Indiana; Volta Redonda, Brazil; Baytown, Texas; and Birmingham, Alabama. Bob was a very conscientious and dedicated employee, and he was recognized many times throughout his career for his achievements and contributions to the company. His commitment to his employer was borne out of a deep sense of responsibility to provide and care for his family.
Bob was an avid photographer and he chronicled many of life’s most important events through the lens of his camera. Whether it was one of his kids’ (and later his grandkids') many extracurricular activities, or his travels to places like Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, or Machu Picchu in Peru, rest assured you would hear the frequent “click” of the shutter as he captured these special moments. As attached as he was to his Canon SLR camera, he eventually embraced the technology of the iPhone and discovered how to edit and share his photography in “real-time” through texting and email.
At a very young age, Bob developed a love and appreciation for working with his hands to create things. Although he wouldn’t admit it, he was as close to a master craftsman as an amateur woodworker could be. He converted the cinderblock basement of the family home in Michigan into a warm and welcoming family room, and he also made various pieces of furniture as Christmas gifts for friends and family. Once he retired, he was able to consistently produce enough furniture to maintain a storefront at a local market in Guntersville, Alabama.
Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Doris Brown, and brother-in-law Jack Mills.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years: Linda Glick Brown; children (from a previous marriage to Sherriann Brown): Rob (Lara) Brown, Ryan Brown, and Alison Brown; stepdaughter: Kristen (Sean) Brown; grandchildren: Emily, Rachel, and Rebecca Brown; Mackenzie and Joshua Brown; Alexis and McKenna Brown; siblings: Fred (Melanie) Brown, Debbie Mills, and Tom (Nancy) Brown; and numerous other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends and family on Friday, September 15th, from 5 - 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 16th from 10 am - 11 am. The arrangements will be under the direction of Restwood Funeral Home & Memorial Park located at 1038 W Plantation Drive, Clute, Texas 77531. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.
