Dr. Hardoin was born on April 20, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan. He played football through college and attended medical school at Wayne State University in Detroit, where in his senior year he met the love of his life, Arlette Bruce. They married on June 30.
He began his pediatric residency at Wayne State, finishing at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. In 1978, while at Baylor, he was invited by Dr. Cook to join his practice in Lake Jackson, Texas. He built and founded Brazosport Pediatric Clinic where he worked for 46 years until retiring in 2018. His achievements include: member of Alpha Omega Alpha, a medical honorary society at Wayne State Medical School, founder of Polysome System Analysis (PSI), co-founder and medical director of Southwest SIDS Research institute, co-author of “The Voice Within”, founder and medical director of ISO-3, LLC. Rick was involved in the Brazosport Rotary Club and a supporter of MISES Institute.
He was passionate about football, the Houston Oilers, the Houston Texans and especially the Michigan Wolverines, “GO BLUE!” This gusto played out in every aspect of his life, especially his love of family and his patient care. He also brought it to his hobbies, which included scuba diving around the world and skiing in Beaver Creek, Colorado. He and Arlette enthusiastically opened their home to the needs of the community and their generosity and hospitality will be remembered by many. Rick was man of integrity and faith, a medical missionary to Guatemala and a life-long member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Lake Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lydia and Russell Hardoin; brother, Tom Hardoin; and sister, Shirley Collins.
He is survived by his wife, Arlette; sister, Sandra Sterner; and brother, James Hardoin; his children, Gavin Bruce and wife, Keesha, Nathalie Cook and husband, Thomas, and Valerie Hardoin-Mullins; grandchildren, Gavin Bruce, Jr., Gabrielle Bruce-Hartzel, Alexandria Bruce, McKenzie Cook, Thomas Cook, V, and Stanley Mullins; and great-grandchild Hadley Jax Hartzel.
A memorial service will be held at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 501 Willow Drive, Lake Jackson, Texas. on Friday, November 22, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. with a reception following.
A private family burial will be held at Restwood Cemetery in Clute, Texas
