Rebecca (Becky) Christine Hillers Wanieck, 89, of Lake Jackson passed away on Saturday, August 19. Becky was born on April 14, 1944, in Alvin, Texas to Vernon Gilbert and Dorothy Farrow Hillers. After Becky graduated from Pasadena High School in 1952, she went on to study music at Sam Houston Teachers College. In Huntsville, she met the love of her life, Raymond Wanieck, Jr., in the BearKat band her freshman year. They were married in Pasadena on October 28, 1953. Ray and Becky were married for 59 years until his death in 2012.
Ray and Becky went on to have three children: Ranelle, Randy, and Robin. Becky was a long-time resident of Brazoria County, residing in Freeport and Lake Jackson.
Becky loved to sew and was always creating beautiful garments for friends and family members. She also enjoyed playing Bridge with her friends. Becky loved her churches, both Freeport United Methodist and Lake Jackson First United Methodist. She participated in many committees and social groups, and she and Ray enjoyed singing in the Freeport church choir with many of their friends.
Ray and Becky enjoyed traveling and saw much of the world after his retirement from Brazosport ISD. They spent many summers in Lake City, Colorado, a place they loved, with their best friends and many family members.
Becky spent many days enjoying her volunteer work at the Women’s Center resale shop in Angleton. She also volunteered with Ray with the hospital auxiliary.
Becky was predeceased by her parents, brothers William F. Hillers and Frank Hillers, and her husband Raymond Wanieck Jr. She is survived by her children, Ranelle (Mike) Hampy, Randy (Pam) Wanieck and Robin (Johnny) Ola. Also, her grandchildren Natalie (Matt) Broaddus, Jackie (Alex) Queen, Sarah (Josh) Ensley, Katie Ola and Travis Ola, and 6 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 26, from 2:00-3:00 p.m, with services immediately following at 3:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church in Lake Jackson.
