Drake passed away peacefully in her home. Whether it was her cooking, her caring heart, or her
hugs and kisses, Maudie added sweetness to the lives of all who knew her, especially her
family, who unequivocally adored her. The love that she showed her family and the emphasis
that she placed on the importance of family, is something that will live on through her children,
her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren alike. Maudie was kind, warm, genuine, and
gracious. She had a smile that would light up a room and a laugh that would fill your heart with
joy. While she is already missed so very much, there is comfort in knowing that she is rejoicing
over being reunited with her daughter, Lisa Drake Thomas.
Maudie was born on March 30, 1939 to Arthur and Maude Broussard in Abbeville, Louisiana. In
1945, when she was just 6 years old, her family moved to Lake Jackson, Texas. Maudie loved
growing up in the small town of Lake Jackson and always spoke fondly of the memories that
she made during her many years there. Not long after she graduated from Brazosport High
School in 1957, she fell in love with Richard “Dick” Drake. They were married on June 6th, 1959
and were blessed with 56 years of marriage. Together, they had 3 children; Julie, Lisa, and
Richard, who were the light of their lives. Maudie has been a member of St. Michael's Catholic
Church since 1959. She worked for Dow Chemical for 19 years where she made many lifelong
friends. She had a multitude of talents, and cooking and baking are just a couple that her family
enjoyed the most. It didn’t matter if it was Sunday dinner, a big homemade breakfast, or her
amazing hamburgers, everyone would leave with full tummies and happy hearts. There isn’t a
pie that she couldn’t make and if you were coming over for any type of gathering you could
expect a variety. “Grandma’s Cake”, a recipe passed down from Maudie’s grandmother, is a
family staple and it was requested often. She was also a very talented seamstress and has
sewn for her children, grandchildren, great grand-children, and many others. She was a true
treasure and there is nothing that she wouldn’t do for her family.
