Martha was born in Nicaragua to Efraim and Olga Obando on August 23, 1954. She was the youngest of 7. She is preceded in death by her parents and 3 siblings. She is survived by her husband, Randy Shaw; daughters Sharon (Ralph) Carpentier and Jessica Stone; Grandsons Kenneth Shaw and Jayce Stone; Granddaughters Angel Overton, Nadia Overton, and Sophie Overton; Great-grandsons Cradden, Noah and A’zlan. She also leaves behind her Uncle Tony Trujillo, her sister Olga Gray, her sister Alba (Ronnie) Olexy, her brother Jeronimo Obando, her father-in-law Bob Shaw, her sister-in-law Marie (Ron) Shaw-Kahanek, along with several nieces and nephews.
Martha was happily married to Randy Shaw for 44 years. They met on a blind date arranged by a friend that worked with both of them at Bridge Harbor in Freeport, and fell in love. They were married on October 8, 1976.
Martha was a very social person. She enjoyed talking and helping everyone. She earned an associate degree from Brazosport College, so she could be a bank teller. She worked for several years at Wells Fargo in Angleton. She then took a part-time job at Kohls. She loved getting good deals and working with the public.
Martha loved to cook for everyone, from her Christmas Eve Party of all Parties to work gatherings, she was always trying to feed you.
Martha also loved to travel, especially to Miami and Vegas, but developed a fear of flying after flying to the United States from Nicaragua ~1975. She overcame her fear a couple of years ago when she had to fly to Colorado for her granddaughter’s graduation. She tackled it and flew again for her youngest granddaughter’s graduation in Colorado.
Martha loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with all her heart. She definitely spoiled them all and enjoyed every minute of it.
Visitation will be held at Restwood Funeral Home on Sunday, December 20, from 2-4pm. A church service celebrating her life will be held at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church on Monday, December 21, at 11am. Graveside services following the church service will be at Restwood.
